day 5

I woke up this morning and went running. I still am not loving but I'm going to keep doing it. I like to be good at things and this is something that I certainly am not good at. Lola isn't very good at it either. We'll keep trying. I also rode my bike to see Death Cab For Cutie. It was only three miles from my house but they were mostly up hill. One of the hills was so bad that I got off my bike and walked it. Even that was difficult. That will make up for the kettle corn that I ate.

This morning after my run I ate a rice cake with peanut butter on it. I didn't take a picture. You know what it looks like.

lunch in the San Francisco office

It's not the best lunch. I had some sushi and some sticky rice with seaweed with some sort of ramen noodle thing, then went back for a spinach salad after realizing that I had no green on my plate. There's mushrooms, peas, corn, spinach artichoke and the tiniest bit of cheese with balsamic vinagrete. I got a sea salt chocolate chip cookie too. It was little.

so, that was my day.

Day 4, losing steam

I just couldn't get up at 6am again today. I woke up at 6:45, I took the 7:50 shuttle. I ate a small breakfast and a medium lunch (it looks big but that's not a very large plate) and just didn't have the energy to run after work. I really need to do it in the morning as massaging can take a lot of you. Maybe I just needed to give my body a break. Instead of heavy cardio I did an ab and a butt workout using youtube videos. It was very confusing for Lola, me being on the floor and flailing around, but I am feeling it in my abs for sure. My butt was already sore from running so I can't be sure what it's root soreness is.

Ok, what I ate today:

Nature's Path organic honey'd corn flakes with milk and "green goddess" juice from the juice bar at work. I really only drank about three sips of it as it tasted pretty watered down.

So I know it looks like a lot of food but it is a small plate. So, it's seaweed salad, some sort of tofu sushi (no soy sauce), green bean masala with basmati rice, naan and some sort of grain salad. Yes. I had dessert. It's "key lime pie" and it was tasty.

I haven't had dinner yet. I'm not sure I will. I'm not actually hungry. I did have a snack of a persimmon and some multigrain tortilla chips. I'll probably eat an orange.

I really don't believe in dieting. I know I would lose weight if I did but I love food and I refuse to force myself to give it up. I'll cut back but I don't know that I can cut off completely things that are less than good for me. I mean, I love pork. I love chocolate. I like some fried things every once in a while. Cheese may as well be my husband. You get it. Like I said, I'll cut back but I can't and don't want to stop

day 3

First of all, lunch yesterday:

A salad with corn, peas, beets, brocoli, mushrooms, mixed greens and balsamic vinagrete.

I went out to dinner with Kristine and John last night. I had pasta. Sue me.

Today I forgot my phone so there are no pictures. I had oatmeal with apple sauce for breakfast, quinoa and corn salad, bean stew, mixed mushrooms, sweet potatoes for lunch and this was my lovely dinner:

That's a rice cake with peanut butter. I had a real craving for peanut butter so...

I went to work early to do laundry and thought I would go to this 8am class, kind of a quick abs, thighs and butt workout class, but I didn't get to work until 7:15 which made me stuck waiting for my laundry too late to go to class. It was across campus and I can't just leave my stuff. Part of me wanted to just skip it and part of me felt like I've committed to this daily exercise thing so I'm going to do it. So tonight, after staying late at work and then going to Ikea to look for couches, I went running again. I ran a full mile and walked a half mile. I think Lola will become more of a liability if I want to run farther as after about .8 miles she really wanted to sniff things. I did go a little further because I was trying to run her away from another dog so I guess there's that.

So, three days down. Meaghan is doing well with the exercising too. Hopefully she'll have a computer soon.

breakfast, day 2

I failed at breakfast. I mean, it was delicious but I shouldn't have eaten it. In my defense I only ate about half and I did ride from the building I ate breakfast to the building I work in on a little Google bike, which was probably more than half a mile and those bikes aren't easy to ride. Maybe I rode a little bit off? Maybe?

Anyway, it's banana pancakes with organic scrambled eggs, a little fritata with mushrooms, peppers and cheese, chicken apple sausage and a corn muffin with truffle butter. Remember, I left half on the plate. Promise.

So that happened

I have never made a secret my feelings for running but in case you don't know they're not very positive. I have breasts, which makes it uncomfortable, and good sports bras are ridiculously expensive. I have no desire to spend my hard earned money on a contraption that is both uncomfortable and unflattering. I have three substandard sport boob supports, only one of which is good enough to even consider wearing while running. I also have questionable knees, am a year out from foot surgery, three weeks out from a stupid bike accident, have a history of back and hip issues (thank you, gymnastics!) and running is very hard on the body. Although I support my clients who run, especially people who run and finish marathons, I see the havoc that running can wreak on many of our joints and have never had any desire to put myself through that.

On the other hand I see how awesome runners bodies can be and what great shape their lungs are in. I want runners legs and butt. I want to be able to do things without being winded. I can ride my bike forever but I very rarely find myself huffing and puffing when I'm done. It's not that I don't push myself, it's just that after riding pretty consistently for the past eight year my body is used to that activity. It's not as challenging anymore (although since moving to San Francisco and commuting over an hour to work four days a week I've been riding my bike a lot less often so it's a little bit of work now...but only a little).

Well this morning I woke up at 6am, strapped on my not so great but never worn running shoes, grabbed Lola and went out for my very first run of this workout club. I'm using the term very loosely here as I felt sorta like this

I only ran for about a mile. I walked three block additionally, the first, last and one in the middle. I did have the dog with me and this did serve as her morning walk so I had to give her a chance to go to the bathroom and myself a chance to warmup and cool down. She is both a good and bad running partner. I'm so slow that she wasn't going much faster than her regular speed and therefore wanted to sniff stuff, causing me to have to pull her or encourage her to keep going. This sometimes helped me keep going too.  I will go out again without her.

After pilates last night and running this morning my butt is incredibly sore, which is perfect!

Meaghan, what are you doing today?

Day 1

After doing five Thai massages today the last thing I wanted to do was work out, at work. Meaghan, however, did he job as my partner in this and I ended up at pilates. It totally kicked my ass and I'm glad I went.  The class lasted an hour and boy are my abs and glutes feeling it. Tomorrow I'm going to attempt running. I've never been a fan of it so we'l see how it goes. It's .8 miles to 15th so I'm going to try to get there and back before work. I think 1.5 miles is alright for my first attempt. It's not going to be pretty but I'm going to do it!

My food today:

Breakfast at Google, oatmeal with honey and flax seed, hard boiled egg and Darjeeling tea

Lunch, also at Google, clams, roast chicken, shaved root veggies, wheatberry salad and mixed greens with persimmons and goat cheese. There's a bowl of bananas, pear and apples back there too. Yes, I am spoiled.

Dinner, also at work but at 4:30 before pilates since I eat lunch early, was this little baguette with goat cheese and figs.

I also ate a persimmon, and apple and two rice cakes. I didn't photograph them as we all know what they look like.

It all begins somewhere

Here we go. Tomorrow it begins.

The rules:

Post pictures of all food eaten, this way we can keep track.
Record all exercise done.
Encourage each other to keep going.

Did I miss anything?
